Cincinnati Special Police is a separately chartered law enforcement entity that works under the supervision of the Cincinnati Police Department (CPD). Cincinnati Special Police Officers are appointed by the Cincinnati Police Commission and are governed by rules and procedures set by municipal code 887. Officers wear uniforms approved by the Chief of Police, carry firearms and are entitled to use a two-way CPD radio.

Cincinnati Special Officers strive to make the communities they serve better places in which to live and work. Cincinnati Special Police Officers are committed to community policing with an emphasis on problem solving and community: walking their "beats" and getting to know people on an individual basis, attending community meetings and working closely with the Cincinnati Police Department and other city agencies to find resolutions to everyday neighborhood concerns.
